Lahore: In the PML-N meeting, Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz emerged as strong candidates for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab.
According to party sources, a high-level meeting was held on the country’s political situation under the chairmanship of PML-N leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The Muslim League-N has prepared the initial features for forming a provincial government in Punjab.
Some participants in the meeting proposed to nominate Shehbaz Sharif as the candidate for the Prime Minister, while the rest of the participants supported the proposal to make Shehbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister.
During the meeting, the party leadership left the decision of the PML-N candidate to the Sharif brothers.
Maryam Nawaz has so far emerged as a strong candidate for Chief Minister of Punjab. Further consultation is going on in the party meeting on his name as Chief Minister of Punjab.
PML-N will keep the names of Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in front of their potential allies. Efforts will be made to get the support of PPP, MQM, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and others. PML-N will try to make unanimous decisions by putting its proposals before the allies regarding government formation. The final decision will be taken after the final round of negotiations with Pakistan Peoples Party.
In the meeting, proposals were also made to give the posts of President and Chairman of the Senate to the allies, while keeping the Speaker of the National and Provincial Assemblies with the Muslim League-N.
