ISLAMABAD: A separate petition has been filed by the government in the Islamabad High Court to vacate the injunction on blocking the mobile SIMs of non-filers.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan reached the Islamabad High Court to get the injunction issued by the court in the case of preventing the government from blocking the mobile phone SIMs of non-filers.
Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq heard the government’s separate application to quash the injunction, in which the Attorney General pleaded that the injunction against blocking of mobile SIMs should be quashed.
The Chief Justice remarked that there is a request from the media that the previous order which was reported was not such.
During the hearing, the Attorney General told the court that Section 144 provides a complete answer which is related to taxation. The one whose income will be less, obviously he will not apply. Things are also clear regarding NTN number.
The Chief Justice said that those who are ordinary workers related to the tax net, which has a booth, will obviously not be included in it. The Attorney General replied that of course, they will not notice. On this occasion, the Attorney General also referred to various cases related to taxes.
The Chief Justice remarked that the fear is that the FBR takes everyone in its loop. Now everyone goes and tells that it is not like that. Now who will go to FBR, give no role regulation. Notice on your request.
The Chief Justice said that if there is no tax payer, what will be done if the SIM is being used in his name by his son or daughter. What will the working poor man do who has not registered himself.
The Attorney General said that the notice will not go to any poor person. Notices are being issued to non-filers from November 2023. If a person submits a reply after the notice is issued, or satisfies the FBR, it will be restored. The Attorney General requested to give 22nd or 23rd next week.
The court while issuing a notice on the miscellaneous application against the application of the private company regarding SIM blocking said that the main case is fixed on 27th.
The Chief Justice said that the court did not stop the blocking of Sims, only the action against the private company. Later, the court issued a notice on the various petitions of the government and sought a response by May 22.
