Paris: In the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024, the Olympic flag was hoisted upside down.
Friday’s ceremony in the French capital, where the athletes’ unconventional arrival on boats on the Seine River to the first-ever open-air event and performances by singers such as Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez, was a four-moon event. Due to a mistake, the organizers came under severe criticism.
Officers of France’s Republican Guard raised the Olympic flag upside down with five colored circles. During the flag raising, 60 musicians from Radio France Choir played the Olympic anthem.
However, none of the officials noticed that the Olympic flag was being raised upside down. In correct order, the flag has three circles of blue, black and red at the top, while the bottom has green and yellow circles.
