Washington: The International Monitoring Fund (IMF) says that Pakistan successfully completed the current program.
IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said at an event that Pakistan has successfully completed its current program with the IMF. Pakistan’s economy has improved somewhat and reserves have also increased.
The IMF chief further said that Pakistan is committed to following the same path and has approached the IMF for a possible follow-up programme.
He said that Pakistan has to address some important issues such as tax base, how the rich are contributing to the country’s economy, public spending and most importantly providing a transparent environment.
Pakistan and the IMF last month reached a staff-level agreement on the second and final review of $3 billion, which will be reviewed by the IMF’s board later this month.
