PESHAWAR: It was not possible to provide free books in government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Educational activities in schools were suspended due to children not having books.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government provides free books to children studying in primary to higher secondary schools every year. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government pays 4 to 5 billion rupees to the textbook board every year for free books and in the last 10 years the provincial government has paid up to 5 billion rupees to the board.
According to the sources, the provincial government owes Rs 20 billion to the Text Book Board and the publishers have stopped the supply of books due to non-payment.
