Islamabad: The Supreme Court has allowed Imran Khan to appear in the NAB amendment case through video link.
A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the government’s appeals against the nullification of the NAB amendments. Both the Prosecutor General NAB and the lawyer Punjab government said that in this case we will adopt the arguments of the federal government.
Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that we support the decision to nullify the NAB amendments.
Justice Athar Manullah remarked that this matter is related to NAB’s involvement in political engineering, Imran Khan has requested to appear in court in person, if he wants to appear through video link, he can.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that if Imran Khan wants to give arguments, he can give arguments through video link, arrangements should be made to give arguments through video link till the day after tomorrow, we accept Imran Khan’s request.
Justice Athar Manullah remarked that as far as I remember, when the NAB Amendment Ordinance came, the government of that time and Imran Khan supported these amendments. The economy is being affected. Parliament’s amendments to the NAB Act were made in the light of PTI-era ordinances and court decisions. Proved wrong, NAB has failed to prevent corruption, NAB was involved in political engineering, if someone is proved innocent, can action be taken against NAB? People have been wronged because of NAB.
The Chief Justice inquired whether NAB has blurred all the laws. It looks like martial law, NAB law becomes immediate, if a democratic government makes a law, problems start.
How much does NAB spend annually? How much does NAB recover annually? How many politicians were proven innocent and how many went to jail? How many politicians of which political party were imprisoned? The Supreme Court sought details from the National Accountability Bureau.
