Rawalpindi: The court accepted Sheikh Rasheed’s pleas for acquittal from the cases filed on May 9 incidents.
The court accepted for hearing the requests of former Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to acquit the cases registered in three police stations on the basis of lack of evidence on the incidents of May 9 tragedy and issued notices to the investigation teams.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed appeared today in connection with the cases registered in 3 police stations, Cantt, Morgah and Taxila, in the May 9 tragedy. In all the three cases, the former interior minister filed constitutional petitions for acquittal on grounds of lack of evidence, insufficient evidence and his absence, which the court accepted for hearing and summoned the government for arguments on May 14.
In the applications filed by Sheikh Rasheed, it has been stated that the former interior minister was not present in Rawalpindi that day. He has been implicated in false cases in connection with the May 9 tragedy, he should be acquitted of these cases.
Later Sheikh Rasheed while talking to the media said that we have been implicated in false cases, it is political revenge. The government has completely failed. Those who were not in Pakistan have also been implicated in the cases.
He said that we will fight and win these cases by staying within the legal framework. Sheikh Rasheed said that all the innocent prisoners should be released immediately.
