Negotiations between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Egypt and Qatar, have made significant progress in Cairo.
A foreign news agency said with reference to the Egyptian media that Hamas and Israel have agreed on the basic and controversial points regarding the ceasefire in Gaza in Cairo, but the details of the agreed points have not been revealed.
After agreeing on the basic points of the deal, the Qatari and Hamas delegations left and are expected to return two days later to finalize the terms of the deal. Consultations between the US and Israel are expected to continue in the next few hours.
Hamas had no immediate comment on the progress in the talks, and none of the parties to the talks confirmed the media report.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened that Israel will not give in to the pressure of the international community and will not accept the demands of Hamas. Qatar, the US and Egypt are negotiating a ceasefire and the release of Israeli prisoners in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails during the nearly 6-month-old war.
More than 33,000 Palestinians have been martyred and more than 75,000 have been injured in Israel’s barbaric attacks on Gaza since October last year.
