In the meeting of the Supreme Judicial Commission, the federal government will propose to appoint Justice Aminuddin Khan as the head of the constitutional bench.
According to the sources, on the occasion of the appointment of the Chief Justice, the parliamentary committee rejected the names of the two most senior judges of the Supreme Court and appointed the third senior judge as the Chief Justice of Pakistan. These two senior judges are Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar. But the government will not consider for the headship of the constitution bench, the government will recommend the fourth senior judge Justice Aminuddin to be the head of the constitution bench.
The government has the support of six members in the twelve-member Supreme Judicial Commission, the Law Minister, the Attorney General, a representative of the Pakistan Bar Council, two members of parliament and a woman representative, while the seventh member is the proposed head of the Constitution Bench, Justice Aminuddin himself, as he is already the fourth senior member of the Supreme Court. As a judge, he is a member of the Supreme Judicial Commission.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will give his opinion during the meeting. Justice Aminuddin will be appointed as the head of the Constitutional Bench and Justice Jamal Mandukhel, the fifth senior judge of the Supreme Court, will be appointed as a member of the Supreme Judicial Commission.
According to the sources, after the completion of the Supreme Judicial Commission, a constitutional bench of nine to eleven members will be formed under the chairmanship of Justice Aminuddin for a period of three to six months. After three to six months, the matter will be reviewed again in the Practice and Procedure Committee.
