At least 45 people were killed when a passenger bus plunged down a bridge and burst into flames in South Africa’s northern province of Limpopo.
According to the World News Agency, the pilgrims were traveling from Botswana to a religious site in Moria, a town in Limpopo, to participate in Easter celebrations and met with an accident in Mamatlakala.
In a statement released by the South African Department of Transport, it has been stated that the passenger bus lost control of the driver due to high speed and fell down the bridge breaking the barriers.
Eyewitnesses told the media that as soon as the ground fell, the bus caught fire and the injured passengers could not get out of the bus. 45 passengers were burnt to death.
The transport department said in a separate statement that only an 8-year-old child survived the accident and is being treated at a nearby hospital.
