Washington: The White House hosted an Iftar dinner during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, but President Joe Biden’s policy of the Israel-Gaza war was protested and the concern of the Muslim community was highlighted.
According to a Reuters report, US President Joe Biden met with Muslim leaders along with senior Muslim officials from his administration before the iftar dinner, which was also attended by First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband.
Dr. Thayer Ahmed, who attended the invitation to CNN, told CNN that he walked out before the meeting was completed. Dr. Thayer Ahmed had spent at least 3 weeks in Gaza.
He said that out of respect for my community, the victims of oppression and the people being systematically killed, I needed to walk out of this invitation.
Thayer Ahmed said she was the only Palestinian-American at the iftar and there was no warmth from Biden and he just said he knew and I walked out.
It should be noted that the said program was very different from the Eid dinner given by Joe Biden in May of last year, when dozens of attendees at the White House applauded Biden’s speech, in which he said that this is your house. .
Among the Muslim members of Congress who attended the event were Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, Palestinian-Americans who are now among the top critics of Biden’s Gaza policy.
A group working for Muslims in America said that Biden’s attendance at the event was low and attributed it to Biden’s continuing unconditional military aid to Israel.
The group said that due to this support of Joe Biden, human lives are being lost in Gaza and a humanitarian crisis has arisen.
It should be noted that 1200 Israelis were killed in the attack of Hamas on October 7, 2023, while in the barbaric operations launched by Israel, more than 32 thousand Palestinians have been martyred in Gaza so far, thousands have been injured and millions have been displaced. .
On the other hand, the United States has vetoed resolutions submitted to the UN Security Council for a cease-fire and at the same time has continued military aid to Israel, even though several human rights organizations have described the Israeli actions as genocide.
