Karachi: The budget of the Higher Education Commission has been reduced from 65 billion to 25 billion due to which funding has been limited to federal universities only.
The federal government has made a big cut in the recurrent budget of the higher education commission for the financial year 2024-25 (recurring budget) to 25 billion rupees and it has been limited to only federal universities, now the federal higher education commission of the provinces Universities will not be able to fund and the provinces will self-fund their universities.
In this regard, the Ministry of Finance has also written a letter to Higher Education, the Higher Education Commission had requested 126 billion for more than 160 government universities of the country.
In this regard, Chairman of Higher Education Commission, Dr. Mukhtar, while talking to Express, said that letters have been received from the Ministry of Finance regarding the reduction of the recurrent grant, while the Planning Commission has received letters regarding the reduction of the development grant, and letters have been sent to the Prime Minister on this matter. He said that the provinces and the federation should cooperate.
