RIYADH: For the first time in Saudi Arabia’s history, a swimsuit fashion show was held on Friday, in which models walked the catwalk in semi-naked swimsuits.
According to the foreign news agency AFP, the fashion show featured dresses created by Moroccan designer Yasmina Kanzal, most of which consisted of a single fabric and consisted of reds, beiges and blues. The shoulders and lower part of the shoulders of the models were bare.
Speaking to AFP, Kunzal said that it is true that Saudi Arabia is a conservative country, but we have tried to represent the Arab world. It would be a historic moment, as it was going to be the first time in Saudi Arabia, and it was an honor for me to be a part of it, this fashion show at the Red Sea Resort on the west coast of Saudi Arabia during the Red Sea Fashion Week. Held on the second day of the inauguration, the resort is part of Red Sea Global, one of the mega projects under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030.
Mohammed bin Salman, who has been the crown prince of Saudi Arabia since 2017, has taken several steps to present a positive and enlightened face of Saudi Arabia to the world, including economic and social changes, removing the religious police, opening cinemas and music. Syrian fashion influencer Shouk Mohammed, who was present at the fashion show, said that such measures by Saudi Arabia to open up society to the world and to grow its fashion and tourism sector are not surprising. who was part of the show, said, “It’s not a big deal for me, but when it comes to Saudi Arabia, it’s a big achievement and a big bravery, so I’m very happy to be a part of it.”
It should be noted that according to the report of the Saudi Fashion Commission, the fashion industry generated a turnover of 12.5 billion dollars in 2022 and provided employment to 230,000 people, which is 1.4% of the Saudi GDP.
