ISLAMABAD: Senior politician Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that destroying the independence of the judiciary is not a solution to the bad decisions of the past.
Awam Pakistan Party leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has expressed his reaction regarding the constitutional amendments and said that Awam Pakistan Party opposes the proposed 26th constitutional amendment.
He said that there are serious questions on the mandate of the present government. The independence of the judiciary will be affected by the proposed amendment. The law on the transfer of High Court judges will also serve to put pressure on them while the proposed amendment will undermine the protection of fundamental rights of citizens.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the Federal Constitutional Court will render the judges of the Supreme Court meaningless. Making trials by military courts more public would be against civil liberties. He said that the solution to the bad decisions of the past is not to destroy the independence of the judiciary.
