ISLAMABAD: Cigarette manufacturing companies have demanded the government to crack down on people involved in illegal cigarette trade across the country.
The representatives of Pakistan Tobacco Company said in a media briefing that the report of the think tank regarding the low tax payment on multinational cigarette companies is based on lies, republishing six years old reports in 2024 is nothing but false propaganda, in which multinationals Cigarette companies have been accused of underpaying taxes by Rs 567 billion.
He said that the data of the report is based on the basis of ten years, on the contrary, the local cigarette industry is damaging the exchequer by evading taxes of 300 billion rupees annually.
He said that in the report, the volume of illegal cigarette trade is very low, which is aimed at protecting the interests of special lobby.
