Bangladesh Chief Justice Obaidullah Hasan has decided to resign.
According to reports by foreign news agencies, the student movement leading the protests had given the Chief Justice a 2-hour ultimatum to step down.
According to the local media of Bangladesh, after this development, the full court meeting of the Supreme Court today has also been cancelled.
It should be noted that after several months of violent protests in Bangladesh, on August 5, Sheikh Hasina, who had been in power for 15 years, resigned and fled to India.
The protests were led by student leaders in which hundreds of people were killed.
After the resignation of Prime Minister Hasina Wajid, Muhammad Yunus was appointed as the head of the interim government on the demand of the students who led the protests and 2 days ago he was sworn in as the head of the interim government of Bangladesh.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in the President’s House where the President of Bangladesh Muhammad Shahabuddin administered the oath to Dr. Muhammad Younis.
Speaking at the event, he had said that ‘I will uphold, support and protect the Constitution and perform my duties with sincerity.’
As the head of the interim government, Dr. Younis holds the position of Chief Adviser, equivalent to the Prime Minister.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by foreign diplomats, civil society representatives, big business personalities and former opposition party members, while no representative of Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s Awami League was present.
