National team whiteball captain Babar Azam has revealed that he is “surprised” to hear rumors of a rift with Shaheen Afridi.
While holding a press conference before the series against New Zealand in Rawalpindi, captain Babar Azam said that Shaheen Shah Afridi and I are surprised to hear the news of the conflict, we have a very good relationship with each other.
He said that the goal of Shaheen and me is to play for Pakistan and win the match, that is our priority.
After Babar Azam was officially announced as the captain, rumors were circulating on social media that Shaheen was angry at being removed from the captaincy, while his relationship with Babar was also not pleasant.
Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy due to the poor performance of the national team in the ICC World Cup 2023. Later, Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as the T20 captain while Shan Masood was appointed as the captain of the Test format, but he was newly elected after just one New Zealand series. Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi once again entrusted Babar Azam with the duties of leadership in white ball cricket, while Shaheen was not given any concrete reason for removing him from the leadership.
