Dubai: An American woman, Onija Andrew Robinson, who came to Karachi after falling in love with a Pakistani young man, was detained in Dubai, while sending her back to the US has become a new problem.
Onija Robinson arrived in Dubai on February 7 from Karachi via flight EK 603, from where she was supposed to depart for New York, but she missed her flight and stayed in Dubai.
Her American family waited for her in New York, but when she did not arrive, the US authorities started a search. After videos of her on the streets of Dubai went viral, the Emirati authorities took her into custody.
Onija did not commit any legal violation, as she is in Dubai on a visit visa. This is why she cannot be forcibly deported to the US. On the other hand, no airline or pilot has refused to take her on the 15-hour long flight due to security reasons.
Now, it is likely that Onija will be persuaded to return to the United States, but it is unclear when and how this matter will be resolved.
