Washington: A CNN report claims that the ammunition used in Israel’s deadly attack on the Rafah settlement was American-made.
American broadcasting organization CNN has prepared a special report on the Rafah attack, which shows scenes after the destruction of “Kuwait Peace Camp No. 1”.
According to CNN report, after analyzing the video of the bomb and explosive traces at the entrance of the camp, 4 explosive weapons experts said that these ammunitions were actually US-made GBU-39 small diameter bombs (SDB).
Explosive weapons expert Chris Cobb-Smith told CNN that it is a high-precision warhead developed by Boeing. It was designed to attack strategically important targets.
Chris Cobb-Smith, a former artillery officer in the British Army, added that while these American-made weapons cause minimal damage, Israel used them in a densely populated area and therefore caused more damage.
Another former senior member of the US Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, Trevor Ball, examined the ammunition fragments and confirmed that it was the GBU-39, which is manufactured in the US.
He added that it has a separate warhead section while its guidance and wing sections are very unique compared to other warheads.
Weapon guidance and wing sections are often left after the munition explodes, according to Troyer Ball. I saw the tail activation section of the munition used on the Rafah and immediately knew it was one of the SDB/GBU-39 variants.
Trevor Ball, a former US military munitions expert, also concluded from his examination of the weapons used at the Rafah camp that there is a variant of the GBU-39 called the Focused Lethality Munition (FLM), which has a large explosive payload. is loaded.
Trevor Ball further explained that the Focused Lethality Munition, or FLM, has a carbon fiber composite warhead body and a powder filled tungsten ground.
American expert Trevor Ball said the serial numbers on the ammunition remnants also matched those of the California-based manufacturer of the GBU-39 parts, confirming that the bombs were made in the United States.
Two other explosive weapons experts are Richard Weir, a senior crisis and conflict researcher at Human Rights Watch, and Chris Lincoln-Jones, a former British soldier and artillery officer, as well as a weapons and targeting expert.
These two experts also examined the pieces of weapons used in Rafah and identified them as US-made 39-GBU.
However, contrary to the claim of this report, in yesterday’s press briefing, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh, when asked about the weapons used in the Rafah attack, told reporters that I do not know what kind of ammunition was used in this airstrike. was used.
