Bamako: Attacks on military and police training camp and airport in Mali’s capital. Among the dead are more than 50 military police students.
According to the World News Agency, armed men stormed a military police training camp in Mali. The attack from all four sides was so sudden and planned that the personnel did not even get a chance to recover.
The attackers also took military weapons and war equipment with them. Jamaat al-Nusra al-Islam wal-Muslimeen, which claims to be the local wing of al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack.
The jihadist group posted photos and videos on its social media accounts in which fighters can be seen destroying a plane, shouting “fight” and “victory” slogans at soldiers.
On receiving information about the attack, more personnel were called. 77 dead bodies were recovered from the scene, while 255 injured were transferred to the hospital, where the death toll is expected to increase due to the critical condition of many.
It should be noted that this attack has taken place on the completion of one year of the establishment of the “Alliance of Sahel States” on border security and defense issues of the African countries Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
The three countries, which have been under authoritarian rule since 2020 after military coups, have severed ties with former colonial ruler France and turned militarily and politically to other partners, including Russia.
