KARACHI: Between 1st and 15th October, the total domestic production of cotton has recorded a decrease of more than 48% compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the latest data of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, till October 15, ginning factories across the country have lost 48% of the equivalent of 3.1 million bales of cotton.
According to the report, during this period, 11 lakh 86 thousand bales of ginning factories of Punjab and 19 lakh 16 thousand bales of ginning factories of Sindh have been reached, which is 53% and 45% less than the same period of last year respectively.
According to the report, during the same period, textile mills have purchased 15 lakh 91 thousand bales from ginning factories compared to last year’s 49 lakh 93 thousand bales, while stocks of 5 lakh 8 thousand bales of cotton are available for sale. Till October 15, only 3,200 bales of cotton have been exported abroad.
Chairman Cotton Gener’s Forum Ehsanul Haque said that the fortnight from October 1st to October 15th was unique in the sense that cotton arrival during this fortnight during Cotton Year 2024-25 was more than the same fortnight of the previous year. During all the fortnights this arrival was quite low.
He said that during the said fortnight, a total of 1 million 62 thousand bales of gins have arrived in the ginning factories across the country, while the arrival was 9 lakh 71 thousand bales during this fortnight last year.
184 more ginning factories were unexpectedly activated across the country due to the record increase in cotton arrivals in the under-mentioned Pandharwade, increasing the number of active ginning factories across the country to 536.
He said that due to the record increase in the arrival of cotton across the country from October 1st to 15th, if the weather conditions are good, there is a possibility of cotton production in the country up to 60 lakh bales, but the textile mills are unable to import cotton from abroad. Import orders are witnessing a significant increase.
Ehsan-ul-Haq said that if the power rates for export textile mills are reportedly reduced in the next few months, it will force the textile mills to import around 60 lakh bales from abroad to fulfill their export orders. will fall
