Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has arrived in the US capital to attend the National Prayer Breakfast.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will address on Thursday evening, his mother, late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was a regular attendee of the prestigious event.
The PPP chairman arrived in Washington on Tuesday and is expected to stay for at least 4 days, meeting friends, scholars, media professionals and officials. However, his aides insist that this is a private visit and he will only interact with personal acquaintances.
On Tuesday night, he was seen meeting and welcoming people at the Washington Hilton, where many guests of the event are staying.
PPP parliamentary leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Ahmed Karim Kundi, was also seen with him.
The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event held in Washington, D.C., usually on the first Thursday in February. It was founded by Abraham Wiroide. The event, which is a series of meetings, luncheons, and dinners, has been held since 1953 and has been held at the Washington Hilton on Connecticut Avenue NW since at least the 1980s.
The breakfast, held in the Hilton’s International Ballroom, is attended by approximately 3,500 guests annually, including international guests from more than 100 countries. Until 2023, it was hosted by members of the United States Congress and organized by the Christian Organization Fellowship Foundation on their behalf.
Since 2023, the official event has been organized by the National Prayer Breakfast Foundation.
It is designed as a forum for political, social, and business elites to come together and pray. Since the inception of the National Prayer Breakfast, several U.S. states, cities, and other countries have begun annual Prayer Breakfast events in their own countries.
