Karachi: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of the Chinese investors’ petition to the court on allegations of extortion and harassment against Karachi Police and directed the Inspector General (IG) to conduct an inquiry.
According to a statement issued by the Home Department, Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of the Chinese investors’ petition to the court and has ordered the IG Sindh to conduct an inquiry and nominate a senior police officer as the inquiry officer.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the Sindh government is committed to the security of Chinese citizens in accordance with its spirit and priorities on the SOP and directed that “foolproof security” of Chinese citizens be ensured.
He said that the aim of the Sindh government and Sindh Police is to provide convenience and security to Chinese investors under mutual cooperation, and it is the responsibility of Sindh Police and local sponsors to provide security to Chinese citizens associated with non-CPEC projects.
The Sindh Home Minister said that for the implementation of the SOP, it is necessary to inform the sponsors from time to time and also check them by the SPU officers. It is the need of the hour to check the deficiencies or shortcomings and gaps in the security measures of Chinese citizens.
He said that steps should be taken under the law and SOP to close the security gap. In case of security complaints by Chinese residents, senior officers should immediately check and ensure a solution to the problem.
The Sindh Home Minister said that Chinese citizens approach the Sindh Police for the problems they face in view of the security arrangements, Chinese investors should be provided with a safe environment under the SOP.
