KARACHI: To accelerate economic growth through robust business, trade and exports, exporters, industrialists and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have urged the government to formulate a Pro-Business Strategic Textile Policy Framework (STPF), and formulate a textile and apparel policy, giving priority to the export sector for immediate implementation and execution of the policy.
They stressed that the policy should include sustainable, feasible, and practical measures, as many of the measures outlined in the previous 2020-2025 policies have not been implemented.
KCCI President Muhammad Javed Balwani and Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) Central Chairman Muhammad Babar Khan highlighted the urgent need to improve these important policies, which are set to expire this year.
During a meeting at KCCI, he stressed on removing the ambiguities that have not resolved several issues in the last five years.
He insisted that the policies should be finalized in close consultation with key stakeholders including KCCI, PHMA and various export associations to ensure a comprehensive and effective framework.
On this occasion, Muhammad Babar Khan said that GSP status has an important role to play in increasing exports to the European Union, to make it possible for the continuation of GSP status, there is a need to jointly urge the government to formulate such policies, which will enable the continuation of GSP status.
Abdul Rehman Fida, a leading exporter of domestic textiles and apparel, former chairman of PHMA’s South Zone, and member of FPCCI’s Pakistan-EU Business Forum, stressed the need for consistent policies with full implementation, saying that exporters do not ask for anything unnecessary, we only need a level playing field compared to regional countries, which includes energy costs, simplified taxation policies, zero sales tax on raw materials and export-related services.
