Lahore: 42 years have passed since the death of the distinguished poet and creator of the national anthem Hafeez Jalandhari, but his poetry and works are still a beacon for us today.
Hafeez Jalandhari was born on January 14, 1900 in the Indian city of Jalandhar and moved to Lahore after the formation of Pakistan.
His name will always live in the world of poetry because of his patriotism, romantic feelings and works based on Islamic history.
Hafeez Jalandhari wrote many famous ghazals and poems as well as many books. Singer Malika Pakhraj gained nationwide fame by singing his poem “Abhi To Main Jawan Hoon”.
In 1949, the Government of Pakistan organized a competition for the national anthem in which 723 poets and songwriters participated.
In this competition, the national anthem written by Hafeez Jalandhari was selected, which is still part of Pakistan’s national identity.
In recognition of his valuable services in the field of literature, the Government of Pakistan awarded him the Hilal-e-Imtiaz.
Hafeez Jalandhari died on December 21, 1982 in Lahore and was buried near the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, where his tomb is a testimony to his patriotism and creative greatness.
