A significant increase has been recorded in rice exports from the country on an annual basis in the first four months of the current fiscal year.
According to data from the State Bank and the Bureau of Statistics, the country earned $902.020 million in foreign exchange from rice exports in the first 4 months of the fiscal year, which is 33.68 percent more than the same period of the previous fiscal year.
In the same period of the previous fiscal year, the country earned $674.72 million in foreign exchange from rice exports. In October 2024, the volume of rice exports was recorded at $268.81 million, which was $197.20 million in September and $256.85 million in October last year.
The total volume of rice exports in the fiscal year 2024 was recorded at $3.687 billion. According to the data, the country earned $294.58 million in foreign exchange from basmati rice exports in the first 4 months of the current fiscal year, which is 13.65 percent more than the $259.18 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Similarly, the volume of non-basmati rice exports was recorded at $607.44 million, which is 46.17 percent more than the same period of the previous fiscal year. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, the volume of non-basmati rice exports was recorded at $415.54 million. It should be noted that the total volume of food exports in the first four months of the current fiscal year was recorded at $2.157 billion.
