MUMBAI: Assam Police have arrested well-known film star and choreographer Somi Bora and her photographer husband Tarak Bora in a Rs 2,200 crore fraud in the name of online stock trading.
According to Indian media, the police say that this is a huge financial fraud in which thousands of people have been targeted.
The police said the fraud was being carried out without registration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), which makes all such transactions illegal.
After the arrest of actress Somi Bora and her husband, more people are likely to be arrested.
In a video message after his arrest, Somi Bora denied the allegations saying that he was not involved in the fraud and that a ‘media trial’ was being conducted against him.
State police chief Gyanendra Pratap Singh has said on X (formerly Twitter) that ‘their game is over now’.
