ISLAMABAD: China has given the green signal to convert three imported coal-fired power plants to local coal.
According to sources, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Energy Minister Owais Leghari are on a visit to China, where progress has been made regarding imported coal-fired power plants.
Three imported coal power plants are generating the most expensive electricity in Pakistan, including 1320 MW Sahiwal Coal Power Plant, 1320 MW Hub Power Plant and 1320 MW Port Qasim Power Plant.
China also gave a positive response to the Pakistani delegation regarding the re-profiling of the three coal power plants, while the procedure for taking forward the matters of the imported coal-fired power plants has also been decided.
The Chinese authorities have assured the Pakistan delegation to provide full support in the matter of Panda Bonds as well. Meetings between Pakistani and Chinese officials regarding the conversion and re-profiling of the three power plants will continue.
