KARACHI: The Sindh government has suspended Shehbaz Lund, the municipal chairman of Mirpur Mathilo, the named accused in the journalist Nasrullah Gadani murder case. Mirpur Mathilo journalist Nasrullah Gadani was killed in an attack by armed men on May 25.
The murder case of the slain journalist Nasrullah Gadani was registered against unknown persons in Mirpur Mathilo police station, while on June 27, the eyewitnesses of the murder case identified PPP’s local MNA Khalid Lund and his two sons, Town Chairman Shehbaz Lund and Noor Muhammad Lund. He was accused of murder.
On Thursday, the mother and brother of martyred journalist Nasrullah Gadani were met by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Provincial Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Linjar, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Saeed Ghani were also present in the meeting.
In the meeting, the relatives of the martyred journalist demanded the separation of PPMNA Khalid Lond, nominated in the murder case, at the party level and the suspension of Municipal Chairman Shahbaz Lond.
On the demand of the family members of the martyred journalist, the Sindh government has suspended Shehbaz Lund by acting under sub-section 120 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance Section 120.
Journalists from across Sindh were protesting in Karachi for two days. The Sindh government has suspended Shehbaz Lund, accepting the demand of journalists.
Journalists across Sindh, including the leader of the Sindh Journalists Council, Ghazi Jhandir, have called the suspension of Shehbaz Lund the first step towards justice for the journalist’s murder. After the notification of the suspension of Shehbaz Lund was issued, the protestors ended the two-day demonstration and dispersed.
