ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has ordered Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASCO) to purchase four lakh metric tons of additional wheat.
A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shahbaz Sharif regarding the supply and demand of wheat and the procurement program of the federal government, in which Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and others participated. .
The Prime Minister inquired that why a mobile application was not prepared for the process of purchasing wheat? And directed to suspend General Manager Procurement.
The Prime Minister emphasized that technology should be used to make the wheat procurement process clean and transparent and in this regard a mobile phone application should be prepared as soon as possible.
He also directed a third party audit of Pasco’s stock. The Prime Minister further directed that insurance of commodities should be ensured for the economic security of farmers. Furthermore, the Prime Minister also instructed Pasco to purchase four lakh metric tons of additional wheat in a transparent and effective manner, saying that the loss of the farmer will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
