Geneva: The United States is trying to withdraw Palestine from the vote to join the United Nations as a permanent member.
According to the World News Agency, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is facing pressure from the United States to withdraw from the membership request.
However, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected the American pressure, due to which a referendum on this draft resolution will be held today in the Security Council.
According to media reports, any country needs the support of 9 members of the Security Council to become a permanent member of the United Nations, while Palestine has the support of 8 members, including Russia, China and Algeria.
Israel moved to block the vote on Palestine’s permanent membership in the United Nations. The US also wants to cancel or postpone the voting on the resolution to protect itself from the stigma of vetoing the resolution.
The US and Israel have been pressuring France, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea and Ecuador to vote against the resolution or abstain from voting.
It should be remembered that earlier the resolutions presented in the Security Council to condemn Israel for bombing Gaza were also vetoed by the United States.
