Islamabad: In the future, the Parliament of Pakistan will be empowered to make decisions on the appointment of federal ministers, while the role of the Senate in the national budget will be strengthened.
According to the report presented to the international organization Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the upper house of Pakistan, the Senate informed the Inter-Parliamentary Union that besides strengthening the role of the Senate in the budget, it will be ensured that the national legal framework of Pakistan. Work is consistent with international human rights obligations.
The Senate informed the Global Forum that it would introduce a constitutional clause on conflicts of interest, which would require MPs to declare sponsors of travel and accommodation; The practice of lobbying by individuals or groups with various special interests, seeking to influence legislative decisions, will also be regulated.
According to sources, these details came to light after the Senate identified 14 opportunities to strengthen Parliament, which was submitted to the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the form of a report.
According to the website of the National Assembly, 75 percent of the cabinet is made up of the National Assembly, 25 percent of the cabinet members are taken from the Senate. The National Assembly also has the upper hand in legislation on financial matters.
According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Pakistan’s Senate has conducted a self-review of its democratic credentials and formulated 14 recommendations to make itself more effective. This self-assessment is based on 25 indicators, grouped into seven goals.
