kolkata : A paramilitary officer assigned to the security of an airport in the Indian state of West Bengal suddenly shot himself and ended his life.
According to Indian media, there was a stampede at Calcutta airport due to the sound of gunshots. While the security officials were dealing with the matter, routine operations at the airport were suspended and passengers were facing severe problems.
Airport Security Force officials reached the spot of firing and found a Central Reserve Police Force constable lying in a pool of blood with an official rifle lying nearby.
The official was shifted to a nearby hospital where the constable, identified as Vishnu from Telangana state, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Vishnu joined the Central Reserve Police Force in 2022.
Police said the constable’s room was searched but no suicide note was found. The cause of suicide has not yet been determined. The investigation is ongoing.
It should be remembered that due to ill-treatment of officers, low morale and mental stress, the trend of suicide among soldiers is common in India and the investigations conducted in this regard are kept under cold storage.
