LAHORE: There will be a one-to-one contest between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the election of the 14th President of the country, for which the National Assembly, Senate and four Polling will be held in the provincial assemblies today from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Election Commission has appointed Chief Justices of High Courts for Provincial Assemblies and Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq as Presiding Officer for National Assembly.
The voting process for the presidential election in the National and Provincial Assemblies will begin at 10 am and end at 4 pm, after which the sealed ballot boxes will be opened in the presence of the polling agents of the presidential candidates and after the counting of votes is complete. The presiding officers will announce the results and these results will also be sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad.
After receiving the results from the four provincial assemblies, the Chief Election Commissioner will announce the final victory of the presidential candidate in Islamabad in the evening.
The co-chairman of the PPP is the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (N) and its allied parties Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, Muslim League (Q), Stability Pakistan Party (IPP), Balochistan Awami Party, Awami. National Party and others are supported while Pashtun Khwaja Milli Awami Party chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai is supported by Sunni Unity Council, independent members from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
The parties supporting PPP candidate Asif Zardari have a majority in the National Assembly and three provincial assemblies, with PPP in Sindh, Muslim League (N) in Punjab and both PPP and Muslim League (N) in Balochistan. While the Sunni Unity Council has the majority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ruling coalition has the support of more than 200 members in the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly has declared the Provincial Assembly as a polling station for the presidential election and using his authority has issued a notification for convening the meeting and the Punjab Assembly Secretariat has also issued guidelines regarding voting.
The instructions of the Punjab Assembly Secretariat state that every voter shall present the identity card issued by the Provincial Assembly Secretariat for his identification, the polling officer shall enter the name of each voter and the details of his constituency on the ballot paper. Then the voter will sign.
According to the guidelines, the voter cannot use any other pencil or pen on the ballot paper except for the special pencil. The secret ballot method is used for the presidential election. will go behind the veiled place.
