A fire at a care home in the northeastern region of Aragon in Spain has killed 10 people, with two in critical condition.
According to Al Jazeera, local authorities said the fire broke out on Friday morning at a care home in the town of Villafranca de Ebro, southeast of the city of Zaragoza, where elderly people and people with mental health problems lived.
According to international media reports, firefighters from Zaragoza came to extinguish the fire and were busy extinguishing it for two hours. The mayor of Villafranca de Ebro, Volga Ramirez, told reporters that the deaths were likely due to the heavy smoke from the fire, but the cause of the fire is not yet known.
According to El Pais newspaper, 82 people were living in the care home, which opened in 2008 as an old-age home but was recently converted to specialize in elderly people with mental health problems.
