White House Says No Talks Underway With Iran, Keeps All Options Open
WASHINGTON, August 28, 2026: The United States is not currently engaged in negotiations with Iran, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has said, while emphasizing that Washington continues to keep all possible options open regarding Tehran.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Leavitt described Iran’s economic situation as being under severe pressure. She claimed that the country is facing inflation of more than 100 percent and said the Iranian government is experiencing difficulties in meeting salary payments for police and military personnel.
According to Leavitt, Iran is also continuing to deal with the consequences of the US operation known as “Epic Fury,” which she said had caused significant damage.
The White House spokesperson reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a central priority for President Donald Trump.
Leavitt said the US administration is closely monitoring developments surrounding Iran’s nuclear program as well as the wider security situation in the region.
She made clear that there are currently no talks taking place between Washington and Tehran. However, she stressed that the US government has not ruled out future courses of action and that all options remain under consideration.
The comments come amid heightened attention to Iran’s economic and strategic situation, with Washington maintaining a firm position on Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Leavitt’s remarks indicate that, despite the absence of active negotiations, the United States continues to closely assess developments in Iran and remains prepared to respond depending on how the situation evolves.
