The role of Pakistan’s armed forces is to ensure the security and defense of the nation against internal and external threats. However, recent activities by the military’s public relations wing, ISPR, have raised questions about their priorities. Rather than concentrating efforts on curbing the resurgence of terrorism, the army appears preoccupied with publicity stunts and attempts to sway public opinion through organized events and propaganda.
The recent spate of terrorist attacks, including the tragic incident in Karak where the TTP struck again, serves as a grim reminder that militancy remains an ever-present danger in Pakistan. These acts of violence expose the vulnerabilities in our security apparatus and the urgent need for the army to refocus its attention on its core responsibility – protecting the citizens.
Instead of investing resources into organizing poetry recitals or compelling civilians to participate in public relations exercises, the army’s emphasis should be on robust intelligence gathering, strategic operations, and coordination with law enforcement agencies to dismantle terrorist networks.
In the 21st century, a professional military’s credibility should stem from its effectiveness in safeguarding the nation, not from contrived publicity campaigns. The army’s image will be enhanced not through stage-managed public events but through tangible successes in eliminating the threats posed by terrorist outfits like the TTP.
While public support is crucial, it cannot be garnered through orchestrated efforts but by delivering on the fundamental duty of providing security to the people of Pakistan. The nation looks towards its armed forces to lead the charge against terrorism with unwavering resolve and strategic foresight, not to seek validation through misplaced publicity tactics.
It is time for the military’s leadership to re-evaluate its priorities and channel its resources towards intelligence-based operations, capacity building of security forces, and most importantly, a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of militancy. Only then can Pakistan truly make progress in establishing lasting peace and stability within its borders.
The ongoing battle against terrorism demands the army’s undivided attention and a laser-sharp focus on its constitutional role as the guardians of the nation’s security. Publicity stunts and attempts to sway public opinion through organized events only serve as distractions from this critical mission.
