Islamabad: The Ministry of Information Technology has set a target of exporting smartphones worth 500 million dollars in the next three years.
In the first seven months of the current financial year, a significant increase of 138% was recorded in the imports of mobile phones on an annual basis.
According to IT ministry officials, the ministry approved 3 percent allowance for research and development to mobile phone manufacturers, which will be increased to 8 percent.
Pakistan is the 7th largest market for cellular phones and about 19 million people own mobile phones, in 2023 locally produced 2.13 million mobile phones, exported 2.5 million phones worth 15 billion dollars.
