ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is the fifth most vulnerable country in the world to face climate change. The investment target will be doubled.
He said this while inaugurating the nationwide spring plantation campaign at the Prime Minister’s House. He started spring tree planting in the entire country by planting saplings and said that the previous government had set the target of planting trees across the country, the number of trees planted this year will be doubled.
He said that the proportion of forests in terms of the total area of the country is only 5%, according to the Global Environmental Risk Index report, Pakistan is the fifth country in the world most vulnerable to climate risks.
He said that between 1999 and 2018, 10,000 precious lives were lost due to climate change and billions of dollars were lost to our economy, so it is important to create awareness about this danger in educational institutions and plant plantation campaigns throughout the country. All efforts should be made to spread the word.
The Prime Minister said that the entire nation should actively participate in the plantation drive to protect the country from environmental hazards and provide a healthy environment so that Pakistan is safe from all types of environmental pollution and environmental hazards.
Earlier, the Prime Minister started the nationwide spring plantation drive by planting saplings at PM House.
