PM Apna Ghar Housing Scheme Draws 139,000 Applicants as Demand for Housing Finance Surges
ISLAMABAD — The number of applicants under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Housing Scheme has risen by 52 percent, reaching around 139,000, as the government continues efforts to expand access to housing finance.
The latest figures were reviewed during a meeting of the Access to Finance Steering Committee, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
According to an official statement issued after the meeting, applications under the Apna Ghar programme have increased by 52 percent since June, reflecting growing demand for financing to build or purchase homes.
The number of loans disbursed under the programme has also recorded a significant increase, rising by 59 percent, the statement said.
The meeting also reviewed progress under the Zarkhez scheme, where the approved financing amount has crossed Rs7.2 billion.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb directed relevant authorities to identify obstacles affecting financing and present concrete recommendations to the steering committee for their resolution.
Officials briefed the meeting on measures being taken to promote housing finance and facilitate citizens seeking financial support for home construction and purchase.
The government has been focusing on expanding access to affordable financing as part of broader efforts to address housing needs and encourage greater participation in the formal housing finance system.
The sharp rise in applications for the Apna Ghar programme indicates increasing interest among citizens in government-backed housing finance facilities, while the growth in loan disbursements points to continued expansion in access to financing.
