ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has confirmed air operations against terrorists in Afghanistan, targeting the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group and the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban and destroying hideouts on Afghan soil.
According to the statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan conducted an operation against the terrorists in Afghanistan based on secret information, in which the hideouts of the outlawed TTP and Hafiz Gul Bahadur were targeted.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan carried out intelligence-based air operations in the border areas inside Afghanistan.
The spokesman of the Foreign Office has further said that the target of today’s operation was terrorists belonging to the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group. The Gul Bahadur group, along with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, resulting in the martyrdom of hundreds of civilians and law enforcement officials.
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur group is also involved in the March 16 attack on a security check post in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area, in which seven Pakistani soldiers, including two senior officers, were martyred.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said that over the past two years, Pakistan has repeatedly conveyed to the Interim Afghan Government its serious concerns over the presence of terrorist organizations, including the TTP, within Afghanistan, which pose a serious threat to Pakistan’s security. There are threats, and Pakistanis have consistently used Afghan soil to carry out terrorist attacks across borders.
“We have always prioritized dialogue and cooperation in combating the threat of terrorism and have repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities to take concrete and effective action to ensure that Afghans are safe,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said. The land of Pakistan could not be used for terrorism, but no results could come out.
“We also asked them to deny safe haven to the TTP and hand over its leadership to Pakistan,” the Foreign Office said. Pakistan has great respect for the people of Afghanistan, however, some elements in power in Afghanistan are patronizing the TTP and using it as a ‘proxy’ against Pakistan.
