Mr Patlu Breaks Silence After Sialkot Stampede, Appeals for Impartial Investigation

TikToker Anser Mahmood says he was receiving medical treatment when the tragedy occurred, expresses distress and urges Punjab authorities to hear his side

TikToker Anser Mahmood, popularly known as Mr Patlu, has released his first detailed video statement following the deadly stampede at a wedding-related event in Sialkot, appealing to senior authorities for an impartial investigation into the incident.

In an emotional video that has gone viral on social media, Mr Patlu denied responsibility for the tragedy and claimed that he was receiving medical treatment at a hospital when the incident took place. He said he was suffering from severe back pain and was unable to walk without support.

Expressing condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, he also conveyed sympathy for the injured and said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy.

Mr Patlu appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir to ensure a transparent investigation, urging authorities to examine all available evidence before holding him responsible.

He explained that his wedding celebrations had been scheduled for the 5th, 6th and 7th of the month, including the mehndi, baraat and walima ceremonies. According to him, one of the events was planned as a public gathering to share his happiness with people and support deserving families through food supplies, gifts and arrangements for the marriages of underprivileged women.

He said he had chosen to celebrate his wedding in Pakistan so that ordinary people could participate in the festivities.

Addressing concerns about crowd management, Mr Patlu claimed that he had released a video 10 to 15 days before the event, asking attendees to maintain discipline, avoid pushing and shoving, remain in queues and take care of their belongings.

He further claimed that the organisers had obtained the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event and maintained that the circumstances surrounding the tragedy needed to be properly investigated.

Speaking about his absence from public view over the past two days, he said his physical condition had made it difficult for him to move independently. He also expressed concern about his father’s reportedly deteriorating health and said he did not know where his father was.

The TikToker described feeling isolated during the difficult period, claiming that some of his close associates had distanced themselves from him.

Towards the end of the video, Mr Patlu made an emotional appeal to the provincial government and other authorities, saying he would present himself once his health improved and he was physically able to do so.

He also made deeply concerning remarks about his mental state, expressing thoughts of suicide and saying he no longer felt like living. He suggested that the video could be his final message if no further statement came from him.

His remarks have raised serious concerns about his well-being, while questions surrounding the Sialkot tragedy and responsibility for the crowd-management arrangements remain a matter for investigation.
