Karachi: Islamabad United won the title for the third time after defeating Multan Sultans by 2 wickets in the final of PSL 9.
In the final of HBL Pakistan Super League Season 9 played at the National Stadium Karachi, Islamabad United achieved the target of 160 runs against Multan Sultans on the last ball of the last over at the loss of 8 wickets.
Islamabad United has previously won the first edition of PSL in 2016 and the third edition in 2018.
Martin Guptill 50, Atim Khan 30, Naseem Shah and Colin Munro 17 and 17 runs were prominent for Islamabad United.
Agha Salman scored 10 runs, Shadab Khan scored 4 runs, Hyder Ali scored 5 runs and Faheem Ashraf scored one run.
Hanin Shah, who came to bat at number eight, gave the team success by hitting the winning shot on the last ball and remained unbeaten with 4 runs, while Imad Wasim remained unbeaten with 19 runs.
For Multan Sultans, Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed took 2 wickets each, while David Wali, Muhammad Ali and Osama Mir took one wicket each.
Earlier Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Multan Sultans scored 159 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Usman Khan 57, Iftikhar Ahmed 32 and Muhammad Rizwan were outstanding with 26 runs.
Khushdil Shah scored 11 runs, Yasir Khan, David Wiley and Osama Mir scored 6 runs, Johnson Charles scored 4 runs and Abbas Afridi scored 1 run.
Chris Jordan returned to the pavilion on zero while Muhammad Ali, who came in to bat at number nine, remained not out without scoring any runs.
Imad Wasim took 5 wickets and Shadab Khan took 5 wickets from Islamabad United.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi is also present at the stadium, he will distribute the prizes at the end of the competition as a special guest.
It should be remembered that this is the third consecutive defeat of Multan Sultans, who made it to the final for the fourth time. Multan Sultans were defeated by Lahore Qalandars in the last two editions while they managed to win the sixth edition of PSL in 2021.
