“US Broke the Deal Despite Positive Talks, Says Iran’s President”
Tehran, July 21, 2026: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that negotiations with the United States were more positive than expected, but accused Washington of violating the agreement despite progress made during the talks.
Speaking in Tehran, President Pezeshkian said communication and coordination with Iran’s Supreme Leader continue to strengthen, adding that the negotiations with the US advanced step by step and exceeded initial expectations.
He stated that Iran’s primary objective during the talks was to ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to facilitate oil exports and other key economic activities.
“Despite progress on all major issues, the United States breached the agreement,” Pezeshkian said, emphasizing that all strategic decisions in Iran are made in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Leader.
The Iranian president reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to safeguarding its national interests and pursuing policies aimed at maintaining regional stability.
Meanwhile, the U S Department of Defense (Pentagon) confirmed that nearly 100 American service members have been injured during the two-week conflict involving Iran.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said that around 100 U S troops have sustained various injuries since July 7, adding that 96% of the wounded personnel have already returned to duty.
The disclosure comes after the Pentagon identified two US service members who were killed in an Iranian attack on Friday.
Earlier, the Pentagon had reported that 14 American troops had been killed and 427 injured since February 28.
