ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb says that Pakistan is keen to take a historic long-term program from the IMF.
Talking to the media in Islamabad, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that Pakistan will try to get a big program from the IMF based on the quota. Looking to take the longest running program in the country’s history.
The finance minister further said that the continuation of the IMF program will ensure economic discipline. Improvement of the economy is the goal of our government more than the IMF. There is no interruption in the final tranche of the current loan program from the IMF. The IMF has disbursed $1.1 billion in the last tranche of the current program.
He said that the initial outline of the IMF’s new loan program is being prepared. Economic stability is a common goal of the IMF and the Government of Pakistan. Environmental funding can also be discussed with the loan program. The IMF has been lending more than its quota to some countries to improve the environment.
The Finance Minister said that the caretaker government has done a good job for the improvement of the economy. Want to collect tax revenue digitally. Transparency in the tax system is one of the top priorities of the government. Want to increase the share of taxes in national income to 10%.
