Seoul: Thousands of doctors in South Korea went on strike against the recruitment of new doctors.
According to foreign media, thousands of South Korean doctors are protesting against the recruitment of new doctors into the system. The protesting doctors are demanding that instead of recruiting new doctors, the salaries of the already working doctors should be increased and better facilities should be provided.
More than 6 thousand doctors resigned in protest against the government policy. The government has given an ultimatum to the striking doctors to come to work immediately and said that strict action will be taken against the doctors who do not obey the order.
According to reports, 90% of the hospitals in South Korea are private and the treatment is expensive. The number of doctors is less than the number of patients in the country and 2 doctors are available for every 1000 patients. Despite this, doctors are protesting against the new recruitments.
