ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Cement sales in February fell by 19.22% to 3.259 million tonnes from 4.035 million tonnes in the month of February last year.
According to the statistics of All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, the domestic sale of cement during February 2024 was 2.863 million tons, which was 20.23% lower than the sales of 3.590 million tons in February 2023. In the month of February 2024, the export of cement decreased by 11.02% to 3 lakh 95 thousand 935 tons, which was 4 lakh 44 thousand 962 tons in February 2023.
During February 2024, the sales of cement factories in northern regions decreased by 19.26% to 2.433 million tons, which was 3.014 million tons in February 2023. Sales of cement factories in southern regions were 8.26 thousand 85 tons with a decrease of 19.08%, which was 1.021 million tons in February last year.
Sales of cement in the domestic market during February 2024 from the cement factories of northern regions decreased by 20.73% to 2.338 million tons, which was 2.949 million tons in February 2023. In February 2024, local sales of cement factories in southern regions were 5 lakh 25 thousand 543 tons, which was 17.97% less than the local sales of 6 lakh 40 thousand 645 tons in February 2023.
During February 2024, the export from the cement factories of the northern regions was 95 thousand 393 tons with a significant increase of 47.40%, which was 64 thousand 717 tons in February 2023. During February, the export of cement from the cement factories of southern regions decreased by 20.96% to 3 lakh 542 tons which was 3 lakh 80 thousand 245 tons in February 2023.
During the first eight months of this financial year, from July to February, the total sales of cement (including domestic and exports) was 30.555 million tons, which was 2.52% more than the total sales of 29.805 million tons in the same period of the previous financial year. In the first eight months of this financial year, local sales of cement were recorded at 26.059 million tons, which was 4.22% less than the local sales of 27.207 million tons in the same period of the previous financial year.
During the first eight months of the current financial year, the export of cement was 4.496 million tons with a significant increase of 73.10%, while the export of the same period of the last financial year was 2.597 million tons.
