Mogadishu: In an attack on a military base in Somalia, 5 personnel were killed, of which 3 were from the United Arab Emirates and 1 from Bahrain, while 4 soldiers were also injured.
According to Arab media, the Gordon military base in Somalia was attacked while the personnel were praying there. These personnel included local soldiers as well as foreign soldiers who had come to train the Somali soldiers.
A Somali army spokesman said the attackers were ambushed and chose a time when most of the personnel were engaged in prayer.
The militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack on the Gordon military base, saying it targeted a military base in the United Arab Emirates. They will not accept their land from anyone else.
In a statement issued by the United Arab Emirates, it is said that 5 military personnel were killed in the attack, including 3 Emirati and one Bahraini soldier who went to train Somali soldiers.
The statement added that 4 soldiers were also injured in the attack. An investigation into the attack is ongoing and the Somali government is in contact to determine the situation.
It should be remembered that a military base was also attacked on February 10 in Mogadishu, the capital of the African country of Somalia, in which 5 people were killed.
In war-torn Somalia, several extremist groups are engaged in a war with government forces, including al-Shabaab and al-Qaeda.
