ISLAMABAD: Appeals have been filed in the Islamabad High Court against the convictions in the case of PTI founder Cypher and Tosha Khana.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Latif Khosa confirmed that Imran Khan has filed appeals in the Islamabad High Court against the sentences he received in the Tosha Khana and Cipher cases. Latif Khosa said that the appeal of the Iddat case has been filed in the Sessions Court. On behalf of Imran Khan, Barrister Ali Zafar filed an appeal against the sentences in both the cases.
It was argued in the petition that the petitioner as Prime Minister is not responsible for keeping the cipher or sending it back to the Foreign Office. The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister is responsible for safeguarding any cipher and returning it to the Foreign Office. If an offense is committed, the principal secretary should be held responsible for it.
According to the petition, irregularities continued to surface during the Cypher case trial. The Islamabad High Court declared the proceedings of the cipher case null and void twice. The court’s verdict is the murder of justice and the sentence awarded to the founder PTI is unnecessary.
The court was requested to annul the sentence given by the trial court and suspend the sentence pending the decision on the appeal and issue orders for release on bail.
The Official Secrets Act court had sentenced PTI founder to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor on January 30 in the cipher case. In the Tosha Khana case, the accountability court sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years of hard labor.
