KARACHI: Deputy Governor State Bank Salimullah has said that the development of agriculture is the solution to many economic problems faced by Pakistan.
Deputy Governor State Bank Salimullah while addressing the opening ceremony of DELFA Cattle Show at Karachi Expo Center as Chief Guest said that State Bank has prepared a new plan for the development of agriculture sector which will be presented in the next two to three months. Under this project, the provision of financing to small farmers will be facilitated and their productivity will also be improved.
Deputy Governor Saleemullah congratulated the organizers while appreciating the successful conduct of Delfa Cattle Show. He said that unfortunately, the agriculture sector in Pakistan has not been given as much attention as it should have been.
The Deputy Governor said that if the agriculture sector is developed, most of the major problems facing Pakistan’s economy can be solved, including problems such as limited growth rate of economic development, inflation, unemployment, food security.
Deputy Governor Salimullah said that the share of agricultural products in Pakistan’s imports is 10 billion dollars, if agriculture, livestock and fisheries are developed, 8 to 9 billion dollars can be easily saved out of this, while keeping the prices at a reasonable level to reduce inflation. The problem can be overcome.
Salimullah said that the State Bank has a special focus on the development of agriculture, for this purpose the State Bank is working on a new project which will be introduced in the next two to three months. Under this project, access to financial facilities will be facilitated for small farmers as 75% of small farms are accessing financial services through non-traditional methods for which they have to face stringent conditions.
